Fruit of a COTONEASTER
1950s – 60s
Coral, nephrite, 585/1000 gold 14 ct
29,8 x 37,8 mm
This brooch features small, bright red berries, clustered along the plant stem. As these berries are made from precious coral, one could call this brooch “coral honeysuckle”, but that’s a different berry.
The depicted species is probably cotoneaster, a shrub native to China but commonly cultivated in temperate climates worldwide. The mid-20th-century Austrian brooch was made by a goldsmith with the initials L.K.
